Twitter Marketing For Newbies
June 9th, 2010If you want to go where the networking is hot – Twitter is the destination. It’s more than a social networking site; it’s a micro-blogging service that solves a huge problem of sweating out the little stuff. This is exactly why it doesn’t deserve to be abused by spammers. But it’s kind of easy to for marketers to make mistakes that sinks them right at the very beginning. At Twitter you can immediately start working on a good business foundation, even though you won’t see swarms of traffic immediately. In time of course you’ll show people your affiliate or other links, but too much too soon will backfire with your Twitter friends. It will take some time to be accepted because they won’t know if you’re a spammer, and they want to know if you’re sincere about your intentions. There are simple but serious mistakes you’ll never want to commit, and like any other form of marketing you’ll need to prepare before engaging.
Moving forward – we want to share some of those real-life mistakes we just alluded to so you won’t need to make them.
Whether you like it or not, people don’t really care about your product or company. People will care even less about how much thought and care you put into your latest product release. People are mainly concerned about the way your product can benefit them. So it’s always about what the prospect wants. Don’t come across as self-important when you market on Twitter. Talk about what your product can do for your followers and keep yourself out of the picture. They will want to learn more about your product after hearing about all its benefits. So keep a low profile and let your followers decide they want to find out more about you.
Another common, and understandable, roadblock (mistake) is not being confident about asking things of their followers. The best approach is to be polite, sincere, and upfront about your questions. After all, you’re using Twitter to engage in good business building and do well.
You’re perfectly within your rights to send offers to a list if you have taken the time to build relationships and you give them good value. It’s really important, though, when you’re sending offers in your tweets be sure you’ve done your homework. But if you are careful with your approach and give real value to your followers, then there’s no doubt that you can ask them to look into your offer.
Twitter is a social media property, so that implies the need to socialize with others. Being a snob will get you nowhere very quickly there. Just be casual, relaxed, and cool with the people in your niche – don’t talk about your promotions of offers. The best approach is to be a good listener, and then offer something in the way of information that can help them. Make the connection with your market, first, and make it a positive one before trying to move forward. Like they say, the best and the most effective way to market on Twitter is not market at all. It’ll take a little practice and patience because it takes time to do this right. No need to worry about making mistakes because you will, just keep marching forward. These are all easily done and avoidable, but making these mistakes can really set you back, sometimes. Be careful with sites like Twitter because your reputation in internet marketing counts a lot. Learn from your own mistakes, as well as those of others, so don’t let it make you stuck.
Even though I could have sold many of my own sites after working on my own twitter marketing, I have quite a few that I personally want to keep. One of my websites took me a long time to build up to rank for its keywords. In that case I just wanted to hold on to it. I know how long it takes to get seo position for keywords, in fact I’ve been working on the words and terms “used kitchen cabinets” for months. I understand and have been through the frustrations myself of waiting, but I know that someday my work will be rewarded. Even though you will no doubt get discouraged, please don’t give up. Your work will be rewarded.
