Red Devils Stand In Way Of Manchester City European Glory
April 15th, 2010It has been a long time coming and finally there appears to be a greater parity in the Man City vs Man Utd live stream in the English Premier League. One will struggle to remember the last time the two clubs have come together with little to separate them. Manchester City are better known to be the poorer relations of United as they tend to struggle on the pitch despite having the greater local support. Their fans are better known to have to sit in silence suffering and making fun of their club’s own ineptitude. This arises from the club professing great ambitions every season but failing to achieve them in any way whatsoever. That might be a thing of the past soon. Since an oil rich Middle Eastern individual stepped in to buy the club, they have enjoyed untold riches. Manchester City are now able to afford any player. There remains one stumbling block in their quest to turn the club into a global superpower in football and that is to make themselves attractive enough for the best players to want to play for them. With a Champions League spot within their reach, that could be the final push for many top players to snap up City’s offer.
To say that the Red Devils are about to slip into the shadow of their neighbours would be an overstatement as of now. Manchester United are still the undisputed kings of English football in the last twenty years. One cannot just turn a blind eye to history and what the club continues to achieve on the pitch. However, there appears to be some signs of decline in the great dynasty of football that is United. Players who have delivered success to the club over the years are showing their age. Young and exciting players brought in to replace them eventually have failed to step up to the plate apart from Wayne Rooney. Even the fearless football that the Red Devils are known for in demolishing every team in their path has largely given way to a safety first approach designed to guarantee the team does not lose. The end result is one of the most open English Premier League title races in years as Manchester United are unable to stamp their authority.
There will be plenty of subplots woven in as the two clubs meet for the 159th time in the Manchester derby. Central to most of them will be Carlos Tevez who represents Argentina on the international stage. Manchester United fans will still have fond memories of Tevez playing for the Red Devils just last season. A lengthy transfer discussion was the subjected of contention between the player and club before his offer to United to buy him for over 20 million pounds was turned down. Carrying his hurt pride along with him to Manchester City, the Argentinian has promptly scored more than 20 goals this season to his new club’s benefit. The player has made it his personal mission to prove Ferguson wrong after the Scot claimed that he was not worth the money. There will also be some focus on Wayne Rooney as the striker returns from injury to play for Manchester United. Since his enforced absence through an ankle injury, the club has looked inferior in every aspect. With the Premier League title race coming down to the wire, his presence will be needed more than ever regardless of the club now recognised as a one-man team.
Manchester City have qualifying for the Champions League as their main goal this season while Manchester United have always made winning another title – their fourth in four seasons – a main priority each season. A place in the Champions League cannot be underestimated in the grand scheme of things for Manchester City. The involvement alone would guarantee to turn the heads of some of the big name players they wish to sign. The club owner believes that spending their way to success will result in more of it in the long run. On the plate for United is the sole mantle of being recognised as the most successful club in English football. Both the Red Devils and Liverpool are on 18 titles each since the inception of each club. With a 19th title in their grasp, Manchester United will finally displace the Merseyside club from the perch they sat for decades and fulfill a shared ambition from Bobby Charlton to Sir Alex Ferguson.
